As Charles Wesley said:
Christ the Lord is risen to-day,
Sons of men and angels say.
Raise your joys and triumphs high;
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply.
Today we rejoice and give you thanks. You are the giver of life. For today we remember that day which transformed the course of history and which across the years has transformed countless human lives. Easter Day. Christ has risen, Alleluia!
We praise you for the great truth of Easter –
The message that your love will not be defeated.
When human evil had done its worst,
Despite every effort to frustrate your purpose,
Still your will triumphed!
The stone was rolled away, the tomb was empty.
Christ had risen, Alleluia!
May the truth fire us each day with new hope,
New confidence and new enthusiasm,
Knowing that whatever obstacles we may face and
Whatever may fight against us,
There is nothing that will finally be able to stand in the way of your purpose.
Lord Jesus Christ, you appeared to different people at different times and in different places –
To Mary in the garden, to Cleopas and his companion on the Emmaus road,
To the Disciples in the upper room, to your followers in Galilee.
Each had their own unique meeting with you, and it was only when you met with them, face to face, that the truth dawned;
Only then that they dared to believe you were alive.
Lord Jesus Christ,
We cannot see you quite as they did, but we too can meet with you and experience the reality of your living presence.
Meet with us now, as we praise and worship you.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Christ is risen – He is risen indeed – Alleluia!
