Goodbye to Cathy

Goodbye to Cathy

We are grateful for the time Cathy has spent with us and we wish her all the best for her new posting in Kent.

Two letters from Cathy

Dear Friends

It really doesn’t seem like four years since I arrived in Saltash and became the Priest-in-charge of St. Stephens, SSNF, St, Mary’s Botus Fleming and Landrake with St. Erney. I was licenced on 4 December 2016 in St Stephens Church, and now it is time for me to move on to new parishes and new challenges in Kent.

Many years ago I came on holiday to Cornwall – and it was probably the worst holiday that I have ever had! I remember thinking I’m not coming back to Cornwall again – but as the saying goes, tell God your plans and he may well upset them! But one thing is certain and that his plans - whatever they are - are good, for he says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord.  “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

So much water has passed under so many bridges since I moved here in 2016 and it has been a great pleasure and privilege getting to know so many of you and journeying with you during this time. Some of the journeys have been sad – with the loss of loved ones, but many more have been times of joy and celebration with weddings and baptisms. And so many wonderful events – from summer fetes and tea parties and Harvest Suppers and Lent Lunches, to Beetle Drives and All day breakfasts and concerts - to mention just a few. I have greatly enjoyed sharing all of these events, and many others with you all.

I have so many wonderful memories to take with me and would just like to say thank you to everyone for all the help, support and friendship that I have received from so many different people and organisations during my time here.

And so finally, I would like to leave you with a quote from Romans 15:11 which reads, “So I pray that God who gives you hope, will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe in him and may you overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

With every blessing to you all.

Yours in Christ

Dear brothers and sisters

My last letter to say farewell to you all and to thank everyone for the wonderful gifts, cards and good wishes for the future.

It was lovely to see so many of you at my last service and to be able to say goodbye personally and to wish you all well for the future. I am sorry that Covid 19 has prevented me from visiting and seeing many more of you recently, but it is essential that everyone does everything possible to safeguard their health.

The gifts will always remind me of the parishes and of you – thank you. Hopefully Audrey will have some photos to go with this note so that those who weren’t able to be at the service can see the gifts for themselves. I would also like to thank you people who have given me individual gifts and cards – I will cherish them.

Once again, my grateful thanks and every blessing for the future.

Yours in Christ

Cathy
